Spotify Premium Not Working: 7 Fixes That Actually Help
By Tahir Shahzad, Founder of Chandia Digital Store · Published November 7, 2026
You paid for Premium and the app still treats you like a free user. In most cases nothing is broken: the app has not caught up with the payment yet, or you are signed in to an account that never paid.

What should you know about log out and back in?
This is Spotify's first suggestion for a reason, and it works embarrassingly often. Logging out and back in forces the app to refresh the link between your device and your account, which picks up a Premium status that the app missed. Do it on the device where Premium is missing, not on a different one. Open your profile, log out, close the app fully, reopen it, and log back in with the same details. If Premium appears, you are done, and the rest of this guide is irrelevant.
2. Are you on the account that actually paid?
This is the most common cause of all, and the easiest to miss. Spotify lets you sign up with an email address, a phone number, Apple, or Google, so many people end up with two accounts without realising it. Premium lives on the account that paid. If you open the app with the other one, everything looks free. Check which account holds the plan. On Spotify's account page, open Edit login methods to see how you signed up, then try logging in with each method until you find the one that shows Premium. A second account often hides behind a different email or a Sign in with Apple login that used a private relay address. If you bought Premium through our store, it was activated on the email you gave us at checkout, so check that inbox first for the confirmation.
What should you know about family or Duo? Check with the plan manager?
Family and Duo plans have their own version of this problem. If someone invited you to their plan, the manager may have removed you, or Spotify may have failed to verify that you live at the same address. Either way your Premium stops without warning. Ask the plan manager to invite you again, or pick your own plan. Our price comparison of every official Spotify plan shows what each tier costs on its own if you decide to go solo.
Should you check whether the payment actually went through?
A payment that looks finished is not always finished. When you pay, your bank puts the funds aside as pending. If the payment then fails, the pending charge expires, the money comes back to you, and Spotify drops you back to Free. Check your bank statement. If the Spotify charge still shows as pending after a day or two, the payment did not complete, and you need to pay again with a method that clears. Two other payment situations catch people out. If your plan comes through a partner, a phone or internet provider for example, that company manages your payments, not Spotify. Your subscription page shows a contact link under Payment for exactly this. And if you paid through a seller or a store, confirm the activation on your own email before assuming the worst. Every plan we sell is activated on your own email with instant digital delivery after manual payment confirmation, and if Premium never appears, message us on WhatsApp and we check it. Support is 24/7, with free replacement during the active plan duration; otherwise, refund of the unused portion.
What should you know about if your downloads vanished, count your devices?
Downloads have their own rules, and breaking one quietly deletes them. Spotify lets you keep up to 10,000 tracks on each of up to 5 different devices. Cross that limit and Spotify removes the downloads from the device you used least recently, with no message about it. You also need to go online at least once every 30 days to keep your downloads, because Spotify uses that connection to collect play data for artists. Reinstalling the app wipes downloads too, which surprises people who reinstall to fix a playback problem and then find their offline library gone. And Offline Mode itself can look like a fault: it grays out anything you have not downloaded, so a playlist you never saved for offline use simply will not play. The fix depends on which rule you broke. Remove a device you no longer use from your account, go online for a few minutes to refresh the 30-day clock, then re-download what you need. If you reinstalled, there is no shortcut. The downloads have to come back one playlist at a time.
What should you know about clear the cache, then reinstall properly?
When the app itself misbehaves, songs that will not start, a frozen screen, a library that will not load, a quick reinstall is the next step. Delete the app and install it again from your app store. That alone clears most corrupted files. If the problem survives a quick reinstall, Spotify recommends a clean reinstall, which removes the leftover data a normal uninstall leaves behind. On Android 6.0 and newer, go to Settings, find Spotify, tap Storage, then Clear storage and Clear cache. Uninstall the app, then open your Files app, go to Internal Storage, then Android, then data, and delete the com.spotify.music folder if it is still there. Restart the phone and install Spotify again. On iPhone there is no cache button, so deleting the app and reinstalling it from the App Store does the same job. One warning before you do this: a clean reinstall deletes your downloads. Do the account and payment checks above first, because they cost nothing, and only reinstall once you are sure the plan itself is fine.
What should you know about update the app and restart the phone?
An old app version can lose Premium features after Spotify changes something on its side, and the symptom looks exactly like a billing problem. Check your app store for a Spotify update and install it. Then restart the phone. It sounds like the advice everyone gives for everything, but a restart clears the temporary state that survives even a fresh login, and it costs a minute. If Premium still does not appear after an updated app and a restart, the problem is on the account side, not the device, and reinstalling again will not help.
What should you know about if none of that worked?
If all seven checks pass and Premium still does not show, stop guessing and send someone the facts. Message us on WhatsApp (+92 349 3614972) with three things: which fixes you already tried, what your Spotify account page shows under Your plan, and the email the plan was activated on. That is enough for us to tell in one reply whether the plan, the account, or the device is at fault. If you bought your plan from us, the warranty covers this exactly. Free replacement during the active plan duration; otherwise, refund of the unused portion. If you bought elsewhere and the seller will not answer, our before-you-buy checklist covers the checks to run before paying anyone for a subscription, and our activation troubleshooting guide walks through the same fixes for other services. And if the real problem turns out to be the plan itself, our Spotify Premium price comparison lays out every official tier, Individual at $12.99 a month through Family at $21.99, so you can pick the one that fits instead of paying for the wrong one twice.

Common questions
How long does Premium take to show up after I pay?+
Usually immediately after you log out and back in. If your bank still shows the payment as pending, Premium appears once the payment clears, which can take a day or two.
Will reinstalling Spotify delete my playlists?+
No. Playlists live on your account, not your phone, so they come back when you log in again. Downloads are different. They live on the device, and a clean reinstall deletes them, so you will need to download them again.
Can I get a refund if Premium never starts working?+
If you paid Spotify directly, ask Spotify support; refunds depend on how you paid and when. If you bought the plan from our store and the activation never worked, message us on WhatsApp and we replace it or refund the unused portion under the warranty above.
